Israeli Prisons Worse Than Graves for Palestinians, Systematic Torture is a Pattern

Gaza, 2 February (PIC): The human rights organization Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has stated that the deteriorating health of Palestinian prisoners released by Israel under a ceasefire agreement reflects the harsh treatment they endured during detention. This abuse continues even after their release.

The organization monitored the release of Palestinian prisoners in four batches by Israeli authorities. It observed that most prisoners were in poor health, having lost significant weight due to deliberate hunger strikes. Many of them were immediately transferred to hospitals for urgent medical care after their release, with some being severely weakened from a lack of treatment during imprisonment.

The report emphasized that Israel has turned its prisons into centers of systematic torture for Palestinian prisoners. Many were subjected to physical abuse, psychological torture, and humiliation, such as being forced to shave their heads and wear prison clothes as acts of degradation. Before their release, they were often beaten and mistreated.

The report also highlighted the violence faced by prisoners’ families, with Israeli forces attacking family gatherings and using bullets and gas bombs against them.

These conditions reflect a broader pattern of Israel’s punitive and systematic abuse of Palestinian detainees, with violence becoming a method of retaliation and control.
