The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced a major relief offer for city residents. Under a new One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, property owners can clear their pending property tax dues with a 90% waiver.

According to GHMC officials, both private and government property owners can benefit from this scheme. Property owners need to pay only 10% of the total pending amount along with the basic property tax to settle their dues.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan said that this offer applies to all properties within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal area. The move is expected to help citizens clear long-pending dues easily and also increase revenue for the civic body.

Recently, Greater Hyderabad was expanded after the government issued a notification merging 20 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations located within the Outer Ring Road into GHMC. With this expansion, the current property tax system will now apply to these newly added areas as well.

The state government completed the GHMC expansion process quickly. The Cabinet approved the expansion on November 25, the GHMC Act was framed on December 1, and the Governor gave approval soon after. On December 2, the Chief Secretary officially announced the merger of 27 urban local bodies into GHMC.

Following the expansion, the government also issued delimitation orders, increasing the number of corporator seats from 150 to 300.
