VHP Distributes “Trishuls” to Hundreds of Members in Sangareddy, Telangana

Sangareddy, 26 March – (www.deccanlive.com): In Sangareddy, Telangana, a far-right group called the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) recently held a big event. At this event, they gave trishuls (tridents) to hundreds of their members. A video going around on social media shows Bajrang Dal activists holding these trishuls and making a promise to protect Hindu Dharma. Around 500 people from the area came to the event and joined in taking this oath.

The organizers said most of the people there were Bajrang Dal activists who wanted to stand up for Hindu identity.

But not everyone sees this event in a good light. A human rights group called Citizens for Justice and Peace says these kinds of events—where tridents are handed out and people swear to protect Hindu identity—are being used to spread ideas that push people apart. They say these gatherings create hate between different communities. Leaders at these events talk about fake stories like “love jihad” and “land jihad.” They also attack minorities with strong words, ask people to stop buying from them, and praise those who break the law to “defend” their beliefs. The group warns that these actions split society more and make violence seem okay by saying it’s about protecting culture or religion.

This wasn’t the first time something like this happened. Back in February, the VHP and Bajrang Dal held a similar event called ‘Trishul Diksha’ in Khammam, another district in Telangana.
