The Telangana government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has given another big relief to the people. The Congress government has already introduced the Gruha Jyothi Scheme, under which poor families get free electricity up to 200 units.
At present, around 52.82 lakh families across the state are benefiting from this scheme. So far, the government has spent about ₹3,593 crore to pay electricity bills for these households. The scheme is only for families that use up to 200 units of power. If consumption crosses this limit, the benefit does not apply.
More Families Now Eligible
To get benefits under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme, the family must belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category and must have a ration card. Recently, the Telangana government issued new ration cards and also approved new Indiramma houses.
The government has now asked people who received new ration cards or Indiramma houses to apply for the Gruha Jyothi Scheme. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka clarified in the Assembly that Indiramma house beneficiaries will also get free electricity if they use less than 200 units.
Some MLAs raised concerns that families using just 10 to 15 units more than the limit are being removed from the scheme and charged full bills. In response, the Deputy CM gave clarity on eligibility and asked eligible families to apply properly.
How to Apply
People who recently received new ration cards or Indiramma houses should apply for the Gruha Jyothi Scheme. Applications must be submitted to Praja Palana officials at municipal offices or MPDO offices.
After verification by officials, eligible families will be included in the scheme. Once approved, households using up to 200 units of electricity will get free power under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme.
