Maharashtra: Akkalkuwa’s Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom Faces Attacks From BJP Leaders and Godi Media

Nandurbar, Maharashtra | November 29, 2025 | DeccanLive.com

Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom (JIIU), a well-known educational and social service institution located in Akkalkuwa town of Nandurbar district, has recently come under sharp political and media attack. The institution, which has been serving the tribal region for more than four decades, is being targeted with what locals describe as “false and politically motivated allegations.”

Some BJP leaders, especially Kirit Somaiya and Vijay Choudhary, have accused the institution of irregularities, misuse of foreign funds, illegal admissions, and improper land usage. However, these accusations have not been supported with any concrete evidence so far.

State Government’s Administrative Step Misrepresented

The Maharashtra government recently appointed a senior IAS officer as an administrator to review the institution’s properties and management, which is a routine procedure under legal guidelines. But a few political leaders have used this action to create controversy and raise doubts about the institution’s functioning.

BJP Leaders’ Claims Called Baseless

Kirit Somaiya held multiple press conferences and released videos making serious allegations against the institution and its Noor Hospital. He claimed irregularities in foreign funding, misuse of land, and fake patient records. However, officials say the inquiries are ongoing and no wrongdoing has been proved.

Similarly, BJP’s state general secretary Vijay Choudhary repeated the same claims, including unfounded allegations of illegal foreign nationals and links to “banned organisations.” Experts say such statements amount to unnecessary provocation.

Media Running Sensational Reports

Following statements from these leaders, some media channels also aired sensational and one-sided reports without verifying facts. Local communities say this type of coverage only spreads hatred and creates tension.

About Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom

  • Established in 1979
  • Provides modern and religious education
  • Runs the 300-bed Noor Hospital, serving poor patients almost free of cost
  • Offers engineering, medical, pharmacy, B.Ed, law and many other courses
  • Well-known across the country for its service in tribal development

Local Community Strongly Supports the Institution

Although the Jamiat administration has not yet issued an official statement, teachers, former students, and members of the tribal community have expressed strong support for the institution. They say the organisation works transparently and has changed thousands of lives through education and medical service.

Local residents say political leaders who have never visited Akkalkuwa are making statements only to create division and gain attention.

Concerns Over Targeting Minority Institutions

Community leaders fear that targeting such institutions without proof harms social harmony and affects the education of thousands of students. They question whether this is another attempt to politically target minority-run educational institutions.

The people of the region demand that investigations be fair and based on facts, not on political agendas or sensational media coverage.
