An illegal chit fund dispute has led to a shocking murder in Jagtial district of Telangana. A 58-year-old man was brutally beaten to death for asking for his pending chit fund money. The incident has created panic and anger among local residents.
The victim, Kolagani Anjaiah, a resident of Govindupally in Jagtial town, was running a small chit fund business without official registration. A man named Srinivas (also known as Bhajaji Srinu) from Ganesh Nagar was a member of the chit fund.
Due to personal needs, Srinivas took the chit amount midway. However, a dispute arose over the payment of the remaining amount. As per chit fund rules, members must continue paying monthly installments until the chit period ends. Srinivas still had to pay ₹12,000, but he failed to do so.
When Anjaiah repeatedly asked for the pending money, an argument broke out. On Thursday (January 1), Anjaiah went to Srinivas’s house and demanded the payment. This led to a heated fight. Srinivas and his son Venu attacked Anjaiah with sticks and fists.
Anjaiah collapsed and became unconscious due to severe injuries. He was immediately shifted to a hospital, but he died while undergoing treatment.
The fight took place on the Jagtial–Karimnagar main road. Police registered a case, arrested Srinivas and his son Venu, and sent them to judicial remand.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of unregulated chit fund businesses and the need for strict control over such illegal financial activities.
