Palestinian Resident Forced to Demolish His Own Home in East Jerusalem

Jerusalem (Occupied) | May 24, 2026 | DeccanLive.com

A Palestinian resident of occupied East Jerusalem was reportedly forced to demolish his own home after receiving orders from Israeli authorities.

The incident took place in the Al-Bustan neighborhood of Silwan, located south of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The homeowner, identified as Juma Mohammed Qarain, demolished the house himself to avoid heavy financial penalties that could have been imposed if municipal authorities carried out the demolition.

According to local reports, the house consisted of two rooms and a bathroom and was built on a plot of nearly 500 square meters.

Reports said Qarain was also instructed to remove trees planted on the land and dismantle iron sheets surrounding the property.

Many Palestinian families in East Jerusalem reportedly choose to demolish their homes themselves after receiving demolition notices, as carrying out the demolition through municipal authorities can lead to large fines and additional costs.

The incident has once again highlighted the ongoing housing and property disputes in East Jerusalem.
