Waqf Amendment Bill Becomes Law: Approved by President of India

New Delhi, 6 April (www.deccanlive.com): President Droupadi Murmu has officially approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was passed earlier this week after intense debates in both houses of Parliament.

She has also approved the Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill 2025.

According to a government notification, the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 received the President’s approval on April 5, 2025, and is now being published for public information.

This bill was passed in Parliament despite strong opposition and debates by opposition parties.

In the Rajya Sabha, the bill was passed with 128 members supporting it and 95 members opposing.

In the Lok Sabha, it was passed earlier on Thursday with 288 votes in favor and 232 against.

Parliament also approved the Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill, which was passed in both houses.

After receiving the President’s approval, the Muslim Waqf Act of 1923 now stands repealed.
