The social media-based political group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday claimed that its Instagram account had been hacked.
CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke posted on X in the morning saying that the team was unable to access the party’s Instagram account. However, the account was still visible to users online.
By Saturday morning, the Instagram page had crossed more than 21.8 million followers, while the group’s X account also gained over 1.94 lakh followers.
The online movement has become a major topic of discussion across social media platforms in recent days, especially among young users.
Founder Claims Death Threats
Abhijeet Deepke recently claimed that he received death threats on WhatsApp. He also shared screenshots of the alleged threatening messages online.
On May 22, he launched an online petition demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy. Reports said that by Saturday morning, the petition had received more than 5.68 lakh signatures.
Deepke’s parents also expressed concern over his safety and reportedly said they fear he could face arrest if he returns to India.
X Account Earlier Suspended
Earlier on May 21, CJP’s original X account was reportedly blocked after gaining over 1.93 lakh followers. Soon after, a new account named “Cockroach Is Back” was created with the bio line: “Cockroaches don’t die.”
Rapid Rise on Social Media
The group first launched online on May 16 and quickly became viral due to memes and posts related to unemployment, exam paper leaks, rising prices, and youth issues.
By May 20, the group had already gained millions of followers on Instagram and became one of the most discussed online movements in India.
The name “Cockroach Janta Party” reportedly became popular after comments made by Justice Surya Kant during a Supreme Court hearing on May 15. During the hearing, he reportedly referred to some unemployed youth as “cockroaches” wandering without opportunities, which later sparked online debate.
