A young groom from Muzaffarnagar has won the hearts of people across India with his remarkable decision during his wedding ceremony.

During the event, the groom Awadhesh Rana refused to accept a dowry of ₹31 lakh offered by the bride’s family. Instead, he accepted only ₹1, which many online users are calling a powerful and dignified message against the dowry system.

According to reports, Awadhesh married Aditi Singh on 22 November at a banquet hall. During the traditional tilak ceremony, the bride’s family presented ₹31 lakh as dowry. However, Awadhesh folded his hands in front of everyone and clearly refused to take the money, firmly stating his stand against dowry.

Awadhesh, who belongs to Nagwa, said that his family has always opposed the dowry system.
“We were being offered ₹31 lakh, but we returned it. We believe dowry is wrong and it should be completely abolished,” he said.

He added that marriage is a sacred bond and should not be based on financial pressure. No father should be forced to take loans to marry off his daughter. Since their marriage was already conducted with just a symbolic ₹1 ritual, taking anything more would be morally unacceptable, he said.

His act impressed not only everyone present at the ceremony but also thousands on social media. Many are praising him for taking a bold and meaningful step toward social reform.
