Hyderabad Gomathi Electronics Fire: Owner and Elderly Man Dead, 9 Others Injured

The owner of the Gomathi Showroom, who was badly injured in the fire that broke out in Hyderabad’s Old City area of Shah Ali Banda, has also died.

The tragic fire took place on Monday night, causing heavy damage to the showroom. One person died on the same night, and nine others were injured, including the showroom’s owner.

The owner, identified as Shiva Kumar Bansal, was admitted to the hospital with serious burn injuries. Despite receiving treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night.

According to police, the showroom owner, 49-year-old Shiv Kumar Bansal, suffered severe burn injuries. He was admitted to Apollo DRDO Hospital, where his statement was recorded in front of a magistrate before he passed away during treatment on Tuesday night. In his statement, Bansal said he was sitting at the counter and reading a notice issued by municipal authorities regarding the demolition of his shop for Metro Rail work when a sudden blast occurred, followed by a fire.

Another victim, a 55-year-old unidentified man, also died due to serious burns. Police have issued a lookout notice to help identify him. He was reportedly wearing a black shirt and an ash-coloured jacket.

Several Injured, Explosion Shatters Glass

Eyewitnesses said the fire was immediately followed by loud explosions that shattered the showroom’s glass panels, injuring several pedestrians and motorists passing by.

The injured include:

  • Sheikh Ahmed, 32
  • Ganesh Vijay Kumar, 21 (employee)
  • Kartik Mahadev Parker, 31 (employee)
  • K. Mani, 23
  • Syed Sabir, 29
  • Ghouse, 30 (auto driver)
  • Jaber Ahmed, 40, and his wife Nazmeen Begum

All were shifted to nearby hospitals by Moghulpura police with the help of ambulances.

Firefighters Struggle for Hours

As many as 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot and battled the flames late into the night. The fire also damaged nearby buildings, breaking windows and ceilings due to the intensity of the blast. Even the historic Shah Ali Banda Clock Tower was partially affected.

Police Launch Investigation

South Zone DCP Karan Kheray Prabhakar visited the spot and supervised rescue operations. Moghulpura police registered a case and started an investigation. Forensic teams examined the site on Tuesday morning and collected key evidence.

Police said the cause of the explosion is still unknown, and investigations are underway.
