In a shocking incident, a man died of electric shock while digging for hidden treasure at a house in Kandla Palli village, Beerapur mandal of Jagtial district, on Sunday night.

According to Beerapur Sub-Inspector Raju, a woman named Sriramula Navata, a resident of Kandla Palli, believed that hidden treasure was buried in her house. To dig it out, she contacted three men — Naraveni Mogili from Anantharam village (Jagtial Rural mandal), Varikoppula Somayya from Govindupalle, and Bhairaveni Raju from Dharmapuri mandal.

As planned, the group started digging on Saturday night after cutting off the electricity supply to avoid being noticed. They dug nearly eight feet deep, but found nothing. When Mogili tried to come out of the pit, his hand accidentally touched a live wire that had been disconnected earlier. He suffered a severe electric shock and was critically injured.

He was immediately rushed to the Jagtial Government Hospital, but died on the way.

Based on a complaint from the deceased’s wife, Naraveni Lavanya, police have registered a case and started an investigation. Jagtial Rural CI Sudhakar and SI Raju inspected the scene.
