US President Donald Trump has said that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would be “unacceptable” as Iran’s next leader.

In an interview with the American news website Axios, Trump stated that he should be involved in the process of choosing Iran’s next leader.

Trump strongly opposed the idea of Mojtaba Khamenei taking over the leadership and said the United States would prefer a leader who can help bring stability and peace to Iran.

“We want someone who can play an important role in bringing harmony and calm to Iran,” Trump said during the interview.

He also added that he should have a role in the decision, comparing it to the situation in Venezuela, where he claimed the US was involved in political developments.

Trump referred to the period after the US attack on Venezuela and the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro, when Vice President Delcy Rodríguez temporarily took power.

His remarks come at a time when tensions in the Middle East remain high and global attention is focused on Iran’s political future.
