29-Year-Old Woman Jumps into Hussain Sagar Lake in Front of Her Children, Dies by Suicide

A tragic incident took place at Tank Bund on Friday, January 2, where a 29-year-old woman jumped into Hussain Sagar Lake in front of her two young children, ending her life.
According to Lake Police Sub-Inspector B. Balraj, the woman, identified as Vasantha, had been under financial stress since the death of her husband.
On Friday evening, Vasantha came to Tank Bund with her two children. After reaching the spot, she handed her mobile phone to the children, made them sit on a chair, and asked them to play for a while. Soon after, she jumped into the lake.
Some passersby noticed the children crying and informed the police. Police rushed to the spot and took the children to the police station for safety. Later, they were handed over to the woman’s brother.
Police said Vasantha’s husband had died four years ago due to jaundice, after which she struggled to manage household expenses. Originally from Mahabubnagar district, she was living with her parents in Pahadi Shareef and taking care of her children — Nandu (7 years) and Cherry (3.5 years).
After the incident, her body was recovered from the lake and sent to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. On Saturday, the body was handed over to her family.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
