Here is good news for Hyderabad residents. The Telangana government has shared a big update on the Hyderabad Metro expansion. As part of the Telangana Rising Vision, the government is working to extend Metro services to all corners of the city, including outer and suburban areas.
The state government has decided to introduce Metro services along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Once completed, people from all directions will be able to reach the city center easily and quickly. This project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and save travel time.
360-Degree Metro Ring Around ORR
Minister Sridhar Babu announced in the Assembly that a 360-degree Metro Ring Rail project will be developed around the ORR. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently under preparation.
As part of the plan, Metro stations will be built at 22 interchange points on the ORR. Skywalks will be constructed for easy public access. The Metro line will also be connected to railway stations.
Each Metro station will have large parking facilities, allowing people coming from other districts or states to park their vehicles and travel into the city by Metro. Officials believe this step will significantly reduce traffic caused by vehicles entering Hyderabad from the ORR.
Separate Metro Corporation Planned
The Telangana government also plans to take over the Metro from L&T soon. A separate Metro Corporation, similar to TSRTC, will be set up to manage Metro operations, expansion, and maintenance.
Just like the Delhi Metro Corporation, Hyderabad will have its own dedicated Metro body. The government will also appoint a Chairman for this new corporation.
Officials are confident that these steps will make Hyderabad’s public transport system faster, smoother, and more commuter-friendly.
