A major mishap was averted on Wednesday morning when an RTC bus carrying schoolchildren got stuck in floodwaters at an underpass near Chinnagolkonda village in the Shamshabad mandal of Hyderabad outskirts.

According to reports, the bus had started from Nagireddypally, carrying around 15 schoolchildren and several other passengers, and was heading towards Shamshabad. When the driver attempted to cross the Chinnagolkonda underpass, he reportedly failed to notice the flooded water levels, causing the bus to halt in the middle of the inundated passage.

The passengers, especially the children, began to panic as the water level started rising. Local residents immediately rushed to the spot and bravely rescued all the students and passengers from the stranded vehicle.

Thanks to their timely intervention, no casualties or injuries were reported. The children were later sent safely to their school in another vehicle.

Heavy rains across Hyderabad and nearby areas have led to waterlogging in multiple low-lying zones, disrupting traffic and posing risks at several underpasses, including those on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
