Telangana Government Divides GHMC, Establishes Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporations

In a major administrative decision, the Telangana government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced the division of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into three separate municipal corporations.

According to official orders, the existing GHMC will now function along with two newly formed bodies — the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC).

Commissioners Appointed

The government has also appointed commissioners for the three corporations.

  • R.V. Karnan will continue as Commissioner of GHMC.
  • Srijana has been appointed as Commissioner of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC).
  • Vinay Krishna Reddy has been appointed as Commissioner of Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC).

In addition, Special Secretary Jayesh Ranjan (IAS) will continue to serve as the Special Officer for all three corporations.

Offices of the New Corporations

  • The GHMC head office will continue to operate from its existing headquarters.
  • The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation office will function from the Tarnaka HUDA office.
  • The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation office will operate from the NAC building in Madhapur.

Number of Wards

  • Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will have 150 wards.
  • Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) will have 74 wards.
  • Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) will have 76 wards.

Areas Under Each Corporation

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)

GHMC will include Khairatabad and Charminar zones, along with parts of Secunderabad and LB Nagar zones. Areas such as Bandlaguda Jagir, Shamshabad, Jalpally, Badangpet, Tukkuguda, Adibatla, Turkayamjal, Meerpet, and Pedda Amberpet will also fall under this corporation.

GHMC will broadly cover the zones of Khairatabad, Secunderabad, Golconda, Charminar, Shamshabad, and Rajendranagar.

Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC)

CMC will include Kukatpally and Serilingampally zones, along with areas such as Narsingi, Manikonda, Tellapur, Ameenpur, Bollaram, Nizampet, Dundigal, Kompally, Gundlapochampally, and Medchal.

The zones of Kukatpally, Serilingampally, and Quthbullapur will form the core of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation.

Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC)

MMC will include parts of LB Nagar and Secunderabad zones, along with Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, Pocharam, Ghatkesar, Nagaram, Dammaiguda, Jawaharnagar, and Thumkunta.

The corporation will mainly consist of Malkajgiri, Uppal, and LB Nagar zones.

This restructuring is seen as a major step aimed at improving urban governance and managing the growing population in and around Hyderabad. More details regarding implementation and administrative changes are expected soon.
