The festive celebrations of Diwali in Hyderabad turned tragic for many families on Monday night as dozens of people, including several children, suffered serious eye injuries caused by fireworks.

According to officials, around 47 people — including 20 children — were brought to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Mehdipatnam for emergency treatment after sustaining injuries while bursting or watching fireworks.

Dr. Ibrahim, the Resident Medical Officer of the hospital, said that all injured individuals received immediate medical care, and their condition is currently stable. However, 18 patients suffered severe eye injuries, while others had minor burns and were discharged after first aid.

A team of seven doctors worked overnight to treat the injured victims. Some were hurt while lighting fireworks, while others were injured by sparks or fragments from nearby explosions.

The hospital administration confirmed that they are fully prepared to handle additional emergency cases if more patients arrive from different parts of the city or surrounding areas.

Authorities have also urged citizens to be cautious during festival celebrations and to supervise children while handling fireworks to prevent such incidents in the future.
