In a shocking crime driven by greed, a man killed his own elder brother to claim ₹4.14 crore insurance money. The incident took place in Ramadugu mandal of Karimnagar district. Police Commissioner Ghouse Alam revealed the details of the case.
According to police, Mamidi Naresh, who works by renting out two tipper vehicles, had fallen into heavy debt over the last few years. His business was not doing well, and he had borrowed money from several people. He also lost money in the stock market, building up a total debt of nearly ₹1.5 crore.
Naresh lived with his unmarried elder brother Mamidi Venkatesh (37), who had mental health issues. Unable to repay his debts, Naresh made a shocking plan—he decided to kill his own brother and claim insurance money.
Insurance Policies Taken Before Murder
Two months before the murder, Naresh secretly took multiple insurance policies in Venkatesh’s name—four from private companies and one from a government company—totalling ₹4.14 crore. He paid all the premiums and waited for the right moment to carry out the crime.
Meanwhile, a man named Namundla Rakesh, who had lent Naresh ₹7 lakh, started pressuring him to return the money. Naresh then told Rakesh about his plan and promised to pay him back with an additional ₹13 lakh if he helped in the murder. Rakesh agreed, believing they would soon receive the insurance money.
Both of them then involved Pradeep, a tipper driver, in the plan.
How the Conspiracy Was Exposed
On the night of November 29, the trio planned to stage Venkatesh’s death as a road accident. The driver Pradeep called Naresh to say the tipper had stopped near a petrol pump. Naresh then sent his brother Venkatesh on a bike ridden by his son-in-law Sai to the spot.
There, they made Venkatesh lie under the tipper truck on the pretext of fixing a jack. Naresh then drove the vehicle forward, crushing his brother under the wheels and killing him instantly.
Naresh told police that it was an accident caused by the driver’s negligence. However, the insurance company suspected his story and informed the police. During investigation, inconsistencies in the statements raised suspicion. Sai also revealed that Naresh himself was driving the tipper at the time of the incident.
Under questioning, Naresh confessed that he killed his brother purely for insurance money. Police have arrested Naresh, Rakesh, and driver Pradeep, and sent them to judicial remand.
