In a shocking case, police in Telangana’s Narayanpet district have arrested three men for allegedly murdering their friend to claim a life insurance amount of nearly Rs 50 lakh.
Addressing a press conference, Narayanpet DSP N. Lingayya said that the murder was carefully planned and later presented as a road accident to mislead the victim’s family and the police.
According to investigators, 44-year-old Bodi Raju, a resident of Makthal mandal, was taken away by the accused – Elim Nagaraju, Srigiri Bhanu Prakash, and Anampally Bhaskar – on June 3, 2026, at around 5:30 pm.
During the investigation, police found that the victim had a life insurance policy worth around Rs 50 lakh. The accused allegedly plotted the murder to obtain the insurance money.
Police said the trio first made Bodi Raju consume a large quantity of alcohol. They then took him to an isolated area near Samanpally village, where they allegedly attacked him with wooden sticks and stones, resulting in his death.
To cover up the crime, the accused transported the injured victim in a car to Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad, where doctors declared him dead. They later informed the victim’s family that he had died in a road accident near Dandu Crossroads.
On June 4, the family filed a complaint at Makthal Police Station, believing it to be an accident. However, police inquiries revealed that no road accident had occurred at the location mentioned by the accused.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspects, who reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning.
Police recovered a Kia Sonet car (TS 08 HG 5543), along with the stone and wooden stick allegedly used in the murder.
The arrested persons have been identified as Elim Nagaraju (33), Srigiri Bhanu Prakash (26), and Anampally Bhaskar (30). All three are being produced before the court.
DSP N. Lingayya appreciated the efforts of Makthal Circle Inspector Ram Lal, SI Raju, ASI Shankaraiah, and the investigation team for solving the case quickly.
