BJP Becomes Largest Party in Bihar With 95 Seats, May Get Its Own CM for the First Time

The NDA is heading for a massive victory in Bihar. By 1 PM, the NDA was leading on 206 seats, out of which the BJP is ahead on 95 seats, JDU on 82 seats, and NDA’s smaller allies on 29 seats.
This is the first time BJP has become the number one party in Bihar, marking a major political shift in the state.

In the last 25 years, this is only the third time the BJP has been the largest party in the NDA. Before this, it happened in 2000 and 2020.
Even though Nitish Kumar has been the Chief Minister for the last four elections, whenever the JDU got fewer seats, the BJP’s influence in the government increased.

What This Means for Bihar Politics

According to senior journalists Harshvardhan Tripathi and Arvind Mohan, the BJP may now take the Chief Minister’s chair. They believe Nitish Kumar may retire, as the BJP’s position has become much stronger.

Here are the major possible outcomes:

  1. BJP May Get Its Own Chief Minister
Two major political experts say the BJP is in a strong position to claim the CM post.
  2. JDU May Get Only One Deputy CM Post
Important ministries like Home, Finance, Health, and Revenue may go to the BJP.
  1. Major Policy Decisions Will Be in BJP’s Hands
Big schemes, new laws, and major administrative decisions may be led by the BJP.
  1. Key Decisions May Be Influenced From Delhi
Experts say Bihar’s major decisions may now align more with the central leadership.
  1. Stronger BJP in Bihar Means Stronger BJP at the Centre
Since the BJP does not have a full majority in the Lok Sabha on its own, a strong JDU-BJP bond in Bihar benefits the Centre too.

However, senior journalist Arun Pandey believes that Nitish Kumar will remain Chief Minister, as the BJP may not want to take the blame for removing him suddenly — though the BJP will still hold more power within the government.
