Jhalawar, Rajasthan – 25 July – (www.deccanlive.com): A tragic incident occurred on Friday morning when the roof of a government school classroom collapsed in Piplaudi village, Manohar Thana block, killing seven children and injuring 28 others, including nine in critical condition.

According to officials, five children died on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries during treatment. Villagers rushed to the scene, removed the debris, and helped rescue the trapped children before taking them to the hospital.

Reports suggest that it had been raining since morning. Instead of gathering the students in the open ground for morning assembly, they were made to sit inside the classroom to avoid getting wet. Shortly after, the roof caved in, trapping 35 students.

At the time of the incident, 71 children and two teachers were present in the school. The teachers were outside the building during the collapse and escaped unharmed.

Negligence Exposed:
Jhalawar Collector Ajay Singh Rathore revealed that the Education Department had previously been instructed to close schools operating in dilapidated buildings. However, the school was not listed as a damaged building, and no closure was ordered.

Additionally, a student, Varsha Raj Kranti, stated that stones started falling from the ceiling before the collapse. Children informed the teachers, but their concerns were allegedly ignored.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma have expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to ensure proper medical care for the injured.
