Telangana Municipal Elections Get Green Signal as Assembly Clears Law Amendment

Hyderabad | January 6, 2026 | DeccanLive.com

The path has been cleared for municipal elections in Telangana. The Telangana Legislative Assembly has approved an amendment to the Municipal Act, removing a key rule that earlier slowed down the election process.

Under the previous rule in the 2019 Municipal Act, authorities had to give 60 days’ advance notice before revising the voters’ list. This condition has now been removed. As a result, there is no need to give prior notice to the Election Commission of India, making it easier to conduct elections quickly.

The preparation of the draft voters’ list has already begun, and the final voters’ list will be released on January 10. With the law amendment in place, the government now has full freedom to conduct municipal elections without delays.

According to reliable sources, the state government plans to announce the election schedule this month and conduct the polls in February. The schedule is likely to be released either on January 11 or January 20. Elections may be completed by the second or third week of February.

The State Election Commission has already released the draft voters’ list, and preparations are moving ahead at a fast pace.
