During a discussion in the Telangana Assembly on the cleanup of the Musi River, AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi strongly appealed to the Congress government to protect poor and helpless people.

He said that the Musi River cleanup should not destroy the lives of poor families living along the river. He stressed that development work must be carried out in a humane and responsible manner.

Raising questions in the Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi asked whether the Musi River cleanup would begin from Vikarabad or from Gandipet. He alleged that the Musi and Isa rivers are no longer rivers but have turned into sewage lines, as the city’s waste water is being dumped into them.

Owaisi also offered suggestions to the government. He demanded that the accumulated silt in Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs should be removed to increase water storage capacity. This, he said, would help in bringing Godavari water in the future.

He also raised serious concerns over the pedestrian project near Charminar. Akbaruddin Owaisi questioned the state government and criticised the administration for negligence in implementing the project.
