Rohit Sharma Faces Criticism Over Weight Gain

New Delhi, 3 March – (www.deccanlive.com): During the match against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 15 runs, after which Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammed called the Indian captain “fat.”

In her post, she wrote, “Rohit Sharma is overweight for an athlete; he needs to lose weight.”

She further stated that calling Rohit “world-class” is unrealistic and that he should not be compared to former captains like Ganguly, Sachin, Dhoni, Kapil Dev, and Shastri.

Her statement sparked outrage in India, and the BJP seized the opportunity to attack Congress.

Rohit Sharma’s fans strongly defended him, highlighting his team’s impressive performance under his leadership.

The BJP criticized Congress, calling the remark an example of the party’s “Emergency mindset.”

Political Uproar Over Rohit Sharma Remarks: Congress Distances Itself –

Ruling party spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari took a dig at Congress, saying, “Is Rahul Gandhi preparing to play cricket after failing in politics?”

Shama Mohammed later clarified that her comment was “general in nature”, and she questioned why freedom of speech is being restricted in a democracy.

Meanwhile, the Congress party distanced itself from her remarks and instructed her to delete the controversial post and be more cautious in the future.

Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera stated, “Congress respects its national heroes and does not support such statements.”

Following party orders, Shama Mohammed deleted not only the controversial post but also all her defensive responses. However, she has yet to apologize for her remarks.
