Senior Journalist and Dawat Editor-in-Chief Parwaz Rahmani Passes Away

Abdul Haq Parwaz Rahmani, a well-known journalist and former Editor-in-Chief of the Urdu publication Dawat, passed away on Monday night after a short illness. He breathed his last at around 9:30 pm at Al-Shifa Hospital in Okhla, where he was undergoing treatment.

According to family sources, Parwaz Rahmani had suffered a brain haemorrhage and paralysis. He was admitted to the ICU and later placed on a ventilator as his condition became critical. However, doctors could not revive him.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

The funeral prayer (Namaz-e-Janaza) was offered on Tuesday after the Zuhr prayer at Masjid Ishaat-e-Islam, located in the Jamaat-e-Islami headquarters campus, and the burial was carried out at Shaheen Bagh cemetery.

Parwaz Rahmani was the fifth and last Editor-in-Chief of Dawat. He began his association with the publication in 1964 and served in various roles over several decades. Later, Dawat was converted into a weekly and shifted its operations to Hyderabad.

He played a key role in continuing the famous Urdu column “Khabar-o-Nazar”, originally started by Dawat’s first Editor-in-Chief, Asghar Ali Abdi. Parwaz Rahmani carried forward the column with the same strength and clarity till his last days.

Known for his strong ideological clarity and commitment, he was also a member of the Central Majlis-e-Shura of Jamaat-e-Islami. His contribution to journalism and the Islamic movement will be remembered for a long time.
