9 Arrested Over Loudspeaker Iftar Announcement in Rampur, UP

Rampur, 6 March – (www.deccanlive.com): A controversy erupted in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, when a mosque used a loudspeaker to announce iftar. Members of other communities protested, leading the police to take action. As a result, the mosque’s imam and eight others were arrested and sent to jail for starting a “new tradition.”

The incident took place in Manakpur Bajaria, a village under the Syed Nagar police outpost in Tanda police station area. The mosque, around 15-20 years old, serves about 20 Muslim families for prayers.

The situation escalated on Sunday when the mosque made an iftar announcement over the loudspeaker. People from another community objected, calling it a new practice and filed a complaint with the police. Upon receiving the report, the police arrived and, after speaking to both sides, arrested nine people, including the imam.

The police tried to calm both communities, but the other group was unhappy with what they called a “new tradition.” As a result, the police arrested nine people, including the mosque’s imam, and removed the loudspeaker from the religious site. A case was registered against all the arrested individuals, and they were sent to jail.

Additional Superintendent of Police Atul Kumar Srivastava stated that a dispute arose between two groups in Manpur Bajaria village, under Tanda police station, over an iftar announcement made via loudspeaker. The police took immediate action and arrested nine people.
