17-Year-Old Girl Killed by Family Over Interfaith Relationship

Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh – 30 July – (www.deccanlive.com): In a shocking case of alleged honor killing, a 17-year-old girl, Saniya, was brutally murdered by her own family for loving a boy from another religion.
According to police, Saniya, who belonged to Palda village in Baghpat district, was in a relationship with Sagar, a boy from a different faith, and wanted to marry him. On July 15, she eloped with Sagar to Una district in Himachal Pradesh. However, her family traced them, brought them back to the village, and subjected Saniya to severe torture.
Investigators revealed that on July 23, she was tied near an agricultural well and beaten mercilessly before being suffocated to death by pressing her throat and mouth. The family tried to cover up the murder, claiming she died of tuberculosis, and quietly buried her.
Sagar’s father, Rampal, later filed a complaint, prompting police action. Authorities exhumed the body for post-mortem, which confirmed death due to suffocation.
Police said Saniya’s uncle Matloob, cousin Sadiq, and a minor relative were directly involved in the killing. All three have been arrested, while five other relatives are still on the run.
Shockingly, no family member came forward to claim her body after the autopsy. The villagers eventually performed her last rites.
