Pork Thrown at Mosque in Guwahati, Assam – Tensions Rise

Guwahati, 9 July – (www.deccanlive.com): In Guwahati, Assam, a man threw raw pork at an Eidgah mosque on Sunday night, causing communal tension.

The meat was found by the imam on Monday morning. CCTV footage showed a man in a blue shirt and helmet on a two-wheeler throwing a plastic bag inside the mosque premises.

Inside the bag was pork and a note that said, “Miya child, you got me pregnant. Now you eat pork.” It had a name and phone number.

Police arrested Mridupawan Pathak from Barpeta. The case is being treated as very sensitive.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned the act, calling it unacceptable and promised strict action. He added that neither pork nor beef should be used to hurt religious feelings.

This comes weeks after similar tensions in Dhubri, where meat near a temple led to unrest.
