A massive car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening has left nine people dead and several injured. Initial investigation suggests that the blast was a possible suicide attack.

According to police sources, the suspected attacker has been identified as Dr. Umar Mohammed, who was reportedly inside a white Hyundai i20 car at the time of the explosion. CCTV footage shows him sitting inside the vehicle for several hours before the blast occurred.

Officials revealed that the car was parked near the Red Fort for more than three hours. The vehicle, bearing registration number HR 26CE7674, had changed multiple hands in recent months — from Salman to Devender in March 2025, and later to Aamir on October 29, before finally coming into Umar’s possession.

Sources also said that Dr. Umar was associated with a ‘White Collar Terror Module’ that was recently busted in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana. Two of his close associates, Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, were arrested earlier. After their arrest, Umar reportedly fled from Faridabad and might have detonated the bomb under pressure.

Police said that a detonator device was fitted in the car, and the blast was planned with two other accomplices. Investigation teams are now questioning Aamir and Tariq, who are believed to have links to the case.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay calm and avoid spreading rumours, as forensic and anti-terror units continue their investigation.
