An alleged case of religious harassment against a Muslim couple at a D-Mart store in Mumbai has sparked outrage after videos of the incident went viral on social media.
The incident reportedly took place at a D-Mart outlet in the Vihar area of Mumbai, where a Hindu couple is accused of making abusive and offensive remarks against the Muslim couple while they were standing in a queue.
According to the woman from the Muslim couple, the argument began after the other couple saw her hijab and passed indecent comments. She alleged that they insulted them by using derogatory words and asked them to stay away, calling them “dirty” because of their religion.
The situation worsened when the Muslim woman’s husband objected to the remarks. She claimed that the Hindu man then threatened her with sexual violence, using extremely offensive language.
The Muslim woman further alleged that other customers and D-Mart staff did not intervene. Instead, she said they were asked to speak in Marathi. She claimed that D-Mart officials warned them that they would not be allowed entry in the future if they did not speak Marathi.
The couple also approached the local police, but alleged that no action was taken. According to the woman, around eight police personnel were present, but they allowed the accused couple to leave. She said the police refused to register a complaint and insisted that she speak in Marathi. She also stated that no woman police constable was present at the time.
The woman further alleged that she is being repeatedly called to the police station and pressured to apologize to the other couple, which she has refused. She said she did nothing wrong and questioned why she should apologize.
She also claimed that D-Mart authorities refused to share CCTV footage of the incident and allegedly made a shocking statement that Muslims are not allowed inside the supermarket.
So far, Mumbai Police have not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
The viral videos have triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many users demanding a fair investigation and strict action against those involved.
