Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has granted permission to look into BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) in the Formula-E car racing issue, which is a significant development. For KTR, this approval has been a major setback.

With this decision, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) now has formal approval to file a chargesheet against KTR in connection with the alleged irregularities.

Recently, the Telangana Government had written to the Governor seeking permission to investigate KTR. After reviewing the request, the Governor has now given the green signal.

Background of the Case

The ACB earlier submitted a report stating that there was quid pro quo involved in organizing the Formula-E car race in Hyderabad. The report also mentioned alleged diversion of funds worth ₹54.88 crore.

KTR has already appeared before investigating agencies multiple times:

  • Twice before the ACB
  • Once before the Enforcement Directorate (ED)

The ACB registered the case on December 18, 2024.
The accused listed in the FIR include:

A1: K.T. Rama Rao
A2: IAS officer Arvind Kumar
A3: HMDA Chief Engineer BLN Reddy

ACB Preparing to File Charges

With the Governor’s approval now granted, the ACB is expected to move quickly towards filing charges. The final chargesheet will be prepared after completing the remaining part of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Government has also written to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) seeking permission to proceed against IAS officer Arvind Kumar. If the Centre grants approval, charges may also be filed against him soon.
