Imam Attacked with Cricket Bat and Sticks in Muzaffarnagar, Condition Critical

A 28-year-old imam was seriously injured after being attacked by a group of youths in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The incident took place in Sarwat Kajiyan locality under the Civil Lines police station area, where the imam, Abdul Wahab, was reportedly attacked while returning after leading prayers at a nearby mosque.
Attacked While Returning from Mosque
According to local sources, Abdul Wahab had just finished leading prayers at Peer Wali Mosque and was on his way back when around five to six youths allegedly stopped him on the road.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers suddenly began beating him with cricket bats, hockey sticks, and wooden rods. When the imam tried to defend himself, the accused reportedly also threw stones and used sharp objects, leaving him badly injured.
The entire incident was reportedly captured on CCTV cameras installed nearby.
Referred to Meerut Medical College
After carrying out the attack, the accused fled from the scene. Local residents who heard the commotion quickly informed the police and rushed to help the injured imam.
He was first taken to the district hospital, but doctors later referred him to Meerut Medical College due to the seriousness of his injuries. Police said he suffered severe injuries to his head and body.
Security Tightened in the Area
Following the incident, tension spread in the Sarwat Kajiyan locality. Authorities have deployed additional police personnel and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in the area as a precautionary measure.
Senior police officials visited the spot and appealed to residents to maintain peace.
Police said they are examining the CCTV footage to identify the attackers and have started an investigation into the case. Officials added that efforts are underway to arrest all those involved in the attack.
Authorities said the situation in the area is currently under control, but police patrolling has been increased to prevent any further trouble.
