A Muslim passenger travelling to Latur in Maharashtra has alleged that he was attacked inside a train near Hafeezpet railway station in Hyderabad. The incident reportedly took place on the Manmad–Kakinada–Shirdi Express.
According to media reports, the victim, identified as Mohammed Imran, said he was travelling in an AC coach when the train stopped at Hafeezpet station. He claimed that around 20 men assaulted him during the journey.
Imran alleged that railway staff and some others were beating a passenger who was accused of travelling without a ticket. When he and a few other passengers questioned why the man was being beaten, the situation suddenly turned tense.
Speaking to the media, Imran said that the group then started attacking him.
“They pulled my beard, removed my cap and threw it away. They beat me badly. I was hit so hard that my mouth started bleeding,” he said.
He also claimed that one of his friends who tried to protect him was also beaten and his mobile phone was taken away.
A video that surfaced on social media on February 11 shows Imran narrating the incident in front of police personnel. In the video, he can be heard saying that he was suddenly picked up and assaulted. He alleged that he was specifically targeted because of his beard and skull cap.
Imran further claimed that despite repeated requests for help, neither the ticket examiner nor railway police immediately intervened. He said a passenger from Bidar, identified as Adil Khan, tried to help him during the attack.
According to Imran, when he wanted to get down at Bidar station to file a complaint, he was not allowed to do so and had to continue his journey to Latur. He also alleged that some money was lost or taken during the incident.
Mohammed Imran has now announced that he will file a formal complaint at Hafeezpet railway station.
“I want justice. No one should face such treatment just because they wear a cap and keep a beard. This is completely unfair,” he said.
So far, there has been no detailed official statement from railway authorities or local police regarding the incident.
