Drug Shock in Medical College: Students Caught in Ganja Bust

Hyderabad, 8 August – (www.deccanlive.com): Hyderabad police have uncovered a shocking drug racket in the city’s Risala Bazar area, where medical students were found buying marijuana. The Telangana ‘Eagle’ police arrested two peddlers and filed cases against 81 customers, including several students from a well-known medical college.
During the investigation, police tested 24 students, and 9 of them — including two young women — tested positive for drug use. All 9 have been sent to de-addiction centres after counselling.
How the Racket Worked
Police received a tip that a young man frequently visited a school ground in Risala Bazar on a bike to sell marijuana to dozens of customers. When officers set up a trap, they caught 23-year-old Arafat Ahmed Khan with 2 kg of marijuana.
Arafat had been buying the drug from Zarina Banu in Bidar, Karnataka, for the past two years and selling it in Hyderabad. Police later arrested Zarina Banu and found bank transactions worth ₹1.5 crore over the past year, including ₹26 lakh from 51 Hyderabad-based peddlers.

Arafat admitted to selling marijuana to nearly 100 people, including 32 medical students living in a college hostel. Of these, 24 were tested and 9 were confirmed positive. Police are still tracking the remaining 8 students.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are also checking if there are more college connections to this drug network.
