52 Lakh Voters May Be Removed from Voter List in Bihar – Election Commission Releases Data

Bihar, 22 July – (www.deccanlive.com): More than 52 lakh voters in Bihar may be removed from the voter list as part of the ongoing voter list revision process. According to the Election Commission, these voters include those who have died, moved to another place, or have their names listed in multiple locations.

Details from the Election Commission

On Tuesday, the Election Commission released new data under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The data shows that around 52.30 lakh voters may be removed:

  • 18.66 lakh voters are reported as dead.
  • 26 lakh voters have shifted to another place permanently.
  • 7.5 lakh voters have their names registered at more than one place.
  • About 11,484 voters have no known address, and
  • Around 6.62% voters were not found at their given address.

Voter Form Submissions

As of 24 June 2025, Bihar had a total of 7,89,69,844 registered voters. Over 90% of these voters have already submitted their verification forms:

  • 7.16 crore voters have received verification forms.
  • 7.13 crore (90.37%) have submitted their forms online.
  • Only 2.70% voters have not submitted forms yet.
  • Overall, 97.30% of voters have been covered under this revision process.

What Happens Next?

The Election Commission is now making strong efforts to include all eligible voters in the draft voter list, which will be published on 1 August 2025.

To help with this, around:

  • 1 lakh BLOs (Booth Level Officers),
  • 4 lakh volunteers, and
  • 1.5 lakh BLAs (Booth Level Agents),

are working together across Bihar. They are searching for those voters who have not yet submitted their verification forms or were not found at their homes.

The Election Officers (CEOs, DEOs, EROs, BLOs) have also held meetings with representatives of all 12 major political parties. A list of 21.36 lakh voters who haven’t submitted their forms has been shared with them.

Objection Period for Public

According to the order released on 24 June 2025, any citizen can file an objection about the voter list from 1 August to 1 September 2025.

This process ensures that the final voter list is clean and accurate before the upcoming elections.
