In a tragic incident, 42-year-old Dr. M. Pathi Srinivas, a second-year postgraduate student in the Anesthesia Department at Prathima Medical College, Naganur (Karimnagar), ended his life allegedly due to severe financial distress and mounting pressure from banks and friends.

According to police sources, Dr. Srinivas had taken heavy loans from both banks and personal acquaintances. Reports suggest that he borrowed ₹1.5 crore from Karunakar of Vanginur, ₹1.35 crore from three friends — Kiran, Kavitha, and Venkata Narahari, and an additional ₹2 lakh from Kumara Swamy of Banjirupally.

Over time, when he was unable to repay the debts, bank officials began pressuring him for EMI payments, while some of his friends allegedly threatened him for failing to return their money.

Unable to cope with the mounting pressure, Dr. Srinivas reportedly administered himself a lethal dose of an anesthetic injection — the very medicine he worked with — to end his life.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
