Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani recently addressed the organisation’s Governing Body Council, where he spoke mainly about Hindu–Muslim unity, peace, patience, mutual respect and constitutional loyalty. However, several mainstream channels, often called “Godi Media,” took a few lines from his speech and presented them in a misleading way, creating the impression that he was promoting tension.

In his original speech, Maulana Madani said that Muslims are loyal citizens of India and should build better relations with people of all communities. He urged everyone to respect other religions and cultures and to spread the true message of Islam through wisdom, love, service, and good character.

Quoting verses from the Quran, he reminded that even during difficult times, Islam teaches patience, stability, and good behaviour, not hatred. He stressed that Islam stands for justice, kindness, and humanity.

Maulana Madani added that Muslims should develop a “Dawati mindset” (inviting with kindness), not a mindset of hostility. He gave the example of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, who spread the message of love and compassion, not violence.

Speaking on the term “Jihad,” he said that the word is often misused by media and hate groups.
He clarified:

  • Jihad means doing good, reforming society and serving humanity.
  • It is not an individual or revenge act.
  • Only an Islamic state can define it — and India is a democratic, secular nation, so any violent interpretation has no place here.

Maulana Madani criticised the use of terms like “Love Jihad,” “Land Jihad,” and “Thook Jihad”, saying these mock sacred Islamic terms and wrongly target Muslims.

He also pointed out that while his peaceful speech was twisted by a section of media, Hindutva extremist leaders regularly give hate speeches against Muslims, yet no action is taken by the government or media.

Some BJP leaders made harsh and baseless statements against him, but instead of checking facts, many media channels amplified those comments.

Addressing Muslims, Maulana Madani said that challenges are a part of life, and strong communities face them with patience and wisdom. He urged parents to focus on their children’s education, character, and emotional growth, saying that well-raised children become a strength for the nation.

Overall, his full speech delivered a message of peace, unity, love, patience and national harmony, not conflict.
