Nilufa Yasmin Secures All-India First Rank in UGC NET 2025, Becomes Inspiration for Minority Students

Kolkata, 29 July – (www.deccanlive.com): Nilufa Yasmin from Katwa town in West Bengal has achieved All-India First Rank in the University Grants Commission’s National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2025, making her a role model for minority students, especially girls.

Yasmin, who scored 100% marks, succeeded in her third attempt at the exam held in June. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated her on social media, saying she had made the state proud. She also praised Yasmin’s parents and teachers for their support.

Nilufa Yasmin comes from a family of retired school teachers and is currently pursuing a PhD at Burdwan University, focusing on the fusion of Bengali culture and traditional music. Apart from academics, she is also a talented singer and has performed online.

In her earlier two attempts at the exam, Yasmin could not secure a national rank, but her determination paid off this time. She dedicated her success to her parents, mentors, and teachers.

This year, over 1 million candidates registered for the UGC NET, with 752,007 appearing for the exam. A total of 54,885 qualified for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professorship, while 128,179 became eligible for PhD admissions.

The second rank in the exam went to Rukta Chakraborty from Kolkata in the field of Mass Communication and Journalism. Mamata Banerjee also congratulated her for the achievement.

Yasmin aims to work for the promotion of Bengali culture while pursuing teaching and research in the future.
