Telangana Increases Fees for Fancy Vehicle Numbers: 9999 Number Now Costs ₹1.5 Lakh

The Telangana Transport Department has given a shock to vehicle owners who prefer fancy or special registration numbers. The department has massively increased the reservation fees for premium numbers through a final notification issued on Saturday.
Earlier, the fee for the popular 9999 number was ₹50,000, but it has now been increased to ₹1.5 lakh. Similarly, numbers like 1 and 9, which earlier cost ₹50,000, will now cost ₹1 lakh. The fee for the 6666 number has also been raised from ₹30,000 to ₹1 lakh.
This change was made by amending Rule 81 of the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, through G.O. 77. Since there were no objections to the preliminary notification issued earlier, the state has now released the final notification with revised rates.
How to Apply for Fancy Numbers
- Applications for fancy numbers will be accepted from 8 AM to 1 PM.
- Vehicle owners must apply online at: http://www.transport.telangana.gov.in
- If more than one person applies for the same number, an online bidding process will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM.
- The number will be allotted to the highest bidder.
Refund Rule
Applicants who fail to win the number in the bidding process will get a 10% refund on the reservation fee.
The department also clarified that after getting the number, the vehicle must be produced for verification. If it is not shown within 15 days, the reserved number will be cancelled.

- 9999: ₹1,50,000
- 1, 9, 6666: ₹1,00,000
- 99, 999, 3333, 4444, 5555, 7777: ₹50,000
- 5, 6, 7, 123, 333, 1234, 2727, 3456, 6789, 8888: ₹40,000
- 3, 111, 234, 5678, 1818, 1999: ₹30,000
- 2, 4, 8, 77, 786, 1233, 4567, 4777: ₹20,000
- Other numbers (cars, other vehicles): ₹6,000
- Other numbers (two-wheelers): ₹3,000
