The Telangana government has announced compensation of ₹4 lakh for the families of people who died due to severe heatwave conditions in the state. According to officials, 16 people lost their lives in seven districts because of extreme heat and sunstroke.
State Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy held an emergency review meeting on Saturday to assess the rising temperatures and heatwave situation across Telangana. He said the government is giving top priority to protecting people’s lives during the ongoing heatwave.
The minister warned that heatwave conditions are expected to become even more severe over the next three days. He directed district collectors and officials to remain on high alert and take all necessary safety measures.
“Saving lives is the government’s first priority. Not even a single life should be lost due to the heatwave,” the minister said. He also instructed authorities to issue hourly weather and heat warnings to the public.
People have been advised to avoid stepping outside between 11 AM and 4 PM, when temperatures are at their peak. The government has also asked elderly people, pregnant women, and children to take extra precautions during the intense heat.
Special safety measures are being arranged for agriculture and construction workers who spend long hours outdoors. The minister said awareness programs about heatwave safety are being conducted at the village level.
Hospitals across the state have also been directed to stay prepared to handle sunstroke and heat-related cases.
