The West Bengal government has announced that there will be only one public holiday for Eid this year. A new notification issued by the state government confirmed that the holiday will be observed on May 28.
Earlier, during the previous Trinamool Congress government, Eid holidays were usually given for two days. The earlier holiday schedule had declared May 26 and 27 as Eid holidays. However, after the change in government, the BJP-led administration revised the decision.
According to the latest notification, Eid will now be celebrated on May 28 this year, and only that day will be treated as an official government holiday. The previous notification announcing two holidays has been cancelled.
The central government had already declared May 28 as a public holiday two days earlier.
Meanwhile, the state government said it is taking all necessary steps to ensure peaceful Bakrid celebrations across West Bengal. Instructions have already been issued to police stations across the state to maintain law and order during the festival period.
The government has also recently revised summer vacation guidelines and extended the duration of summer holidays in the state.
