There is good news for students studying in government and private schools in some districts of the state. Due to upcoming municipal elections, schools in election-bound areas are likely to remain closed for up to four days this week.
According to official sources, municipal elections will be held on February 11 in selected districts. To ensure that the polling process takes place smoothly without any disturbance, the Election Commission has instructed the Education Department to declare holidays for schools located in polling areas.
Following these instructions, authorities have announced a holiday for schools in the concerned areas on February 11, the day of polling.
In addition, the vote counting process will take place one day after polling. Since counting is usually conducted in government and private school buildings located within the polling areas, schools selected as counting centers will also be given a holiday on that day.
Meanwhile, February 14 (second Saturday) and February 15 (Sunday) are regular holidays across the state. As a result, students in election areas may get four consecutive holidays, while students in non-election areas will get two days of holidays as usual.
Officials have clarified that these additional holidays will not apply across the entire state. They will be limited only to areas where municipal elections are being conducted and will depend on decisions taken by the respective District Collectors.
Students and parents are advised to check with their local school authorities for confirmation.
