After Jubilee Hills Win, Congress Sets Eyes on GHMC Elections with AIMIM Support

After winning the Jubilee Hills by-election, the Congress party is now aiming for a bigger target — the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Although the Congress did not perform well in the previous Assembly elections in Hyderabad, the party is slowly gaining ground with support from the AIMIM.

Congress leaders believe that victories in Secunderabad Cantonment and now Jubilee Hills have boosted the party’s confidence. With the current GHMC term ending on 10 February 2026, the Congress has already begun preparations for the upcoming municipal elections.

The party is activating its cadre, strengthening its organisational network, and planning its strategy for the city. Sources say Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has proposed an electoral understanding with AIMIM for the GHMC polls. Congress believes that with AIMIM’s support, it can even target the Mayor’s post.

In the 2020 GHMC elections, out of 150 wards, BRS won 56, BJP won 48, AIMIM secured 44, and Congress managed only 2 seats. This time, Congress hopes the political situation will work in its favour.

However, it remains to be seen whether AIMIM will fully support Congress or opt for a friendly contest. Meanwhile, both BRS and BJP have also started preparing for the elections, making the upcoming GHMC race highly competitive.
