Burqa Dance in Amroha School Sparks Anger; Muslim Groups Demand Action Amid Administration’s Silence

A controversy has broken out in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh after a video from a local school went viral on social media. The video shows boys wearing burqas and dancing inside the campus of Mesco Public School, while the school principal is seen clapping.
The video is said to be from a carnival event held on December 29. A second video, dated January 1, 2026, spread rapidly online and triggered strong anger among Muslims across the district.
Community leaders said the act hurt religious sentiments and mocked Islamic dress and beliefs. They said the issue is more serious because it happened inside a school, which is expected to teach values, respect, and discipline to children.
Many questioned why strict action was not taken even after the first video surfaced.
Zeeshan Pasha, district president of the Young Muslim Committee in Amroha, met the Superintendent of Police and filed a complaint.
“This act has deeply hurt Muslim religious feelings. It should not be taken lightly. Schools are not places to make fun of any religion,” he said.
He added that police officials assured him that the matter would be investigated as per the law.
“We are only asking for fair action, nothing more and nothing less,” he said.
Earlier, Mansoor Ahmed from Muslim Committee Amroha demanded strict action against the school.
“If this was done with the intention of insulting Islam, the school’s recognition should be reviewed and those responsible must be punished,” he said.
Some local residents also raised concerns about double standards. They said similar incidents involving other religions often lead to strong reactions, but complaints by Muslims are ignored.
Akbar Saifi, a resident of Naugaon Sadat, said,
“This looks like a planned insult to Islam. Even if Muslims are involved, action is necessary. If this had involved another religion, there would have been a major uproar by now.”
Another resident, Tariq Azim, expressed concern over the delay in action.
“The video is everywhere, yet no clear punishment has been seen. This is very painful for Muslims. Authorities must step in immediately,” he said.
Amid growing anger, the school principal issued a letter expressing regret. The letter stated that the incident was wrong, such acts will not be allowed in future events, and the students involved have been warned and will face action under school rules.
However, many community members said an apology alone is not enough. They demanded clear and strong action to ensure respect for all religions and to remind schools that they must remain places of dignity and mutual respect.
