A major assassination plot targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi was reportedly foiled in Dhaka with the joint efforts of Indian and Russian intelligence agencies. What’s more alarming is that some reports suggest a possible U.S. link to the conspiracy.

According to media reports, including Malayalam outlet Mathrubhumi and the RSS-affiliated publication Organiser, the plot was uncovered during Modi’s visit to China earlier this year. Sources claim that India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Russia’s foreign intelligence agency (SVR) worked together to neutralize the threat in time.

The conspiracy came to light following the mysterious death of an American Special Forces officer, Terrence Orwell Jackson, in a Dhaka hotel. Officially, Jackson was in Bangladesh to train local army personnel, but intelligence agencies reportedly found his profile “unusual” and his activities suspicious.

During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China, Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly invited Prime Minister Modi into his highly secure Aurus Limousine for a private conversation that lasted about 45 minutes. This car is designed to block all electronic signals, making any form of surveillance impossible.

Sources suggest that during this private discussion, Putin informed Modi about the alleged assassination plot. Acting swiftly on the warning, RAW and SVR began monitoring suspicious communications originating from Dhaka. On the night of August 30, they reportedly detected signs of a planned attack and successfully prevented it before it could be executed.

The following day, the sudden death of the U.S. officer in Dhaka added another layer of mystery. Analysts believe his death may have been linked to the foiled plot.

After returning from his China trip, Prime Minister Modi made a cryptic remark during his address at the Semicon India conference. Smiling at the audience’s applause, he asked,

“Are you clapping because I went to China — or because I came back safely?”

The comment immediately drew attention, with many interpreting it as a subtle reference to the narrow escape from a major threat.

International observers suggest that India’s growing independence in foreign policy — particularly its close ties with Russia and neutral stance on the Ukraine conflict — may have caused discomfort in Washington. Given America’s past record of political interference abroad, speculations about its indirect role in the alleged plot have intensified.

While no official confirmation has been made by the Indian government, the report has sparked widespread debate on geopolitical tensions, intelligence cooperation, and Prime Minister Modi’s security.
