Telangana DGP Explains Why Police Shot Riyaz in Nizamabad Encounter

Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Shivo Dhar Reddy has clarified the circumstances that led to the encounter in which the notorious rowdy-sheeter Riyaz was killed in Nizamabad.
According to the DGP, Riyaz was admitted to a government hospital for treatment when he tried to take advantage of the situation. He attempted to snatch the rifle of an Armed Reserve (AR) constable posted outside his room and tried to escape. In the process, he also attempted to open fire at the police.
DGP Shivo Dhar Reddy said the police personnel acted swiftly to protect themselves and the public by firing back, which resulted in Riyaz’s death on the spot. He explained that had Riyaz managed to fire, many lives inside the hospital could have been in danger.
The DGP further dismissed reports claiming that Riyaz first fired and injured the AR constable. He clarified that Riyaz only attempted to fire, but the police’s quick response did not give him a chance, and he was neutralized immediately.
