Hyderabad is moving towards becoming a global city, and the Telangana government now wants to strengthen the night-time economy to support this growth. With lakhs of employees working in IT companies and businesses even at night, the government believes that expanding economic activities during night hours can bring major financial benefits.
As part of the upcoming Global Summit on December 8 and 9, the government has prepared the “Telangana Rising Vision-2047” report. This document outlines strategies for the next 20 years, including how Hyderabad can increase cultural, tourism and commercial activities after sunset.
Key Focus Areas for Night-Time Economy
Better governance and safety: The government says night-time activities need strong safety measures, good sanitation, public transport, and real-time monitoring dashboards.
Women and tourist safety: Plans include Pink Patrolling, smart street lighting, and AI-based surveillance. Coordination between the Metro, RTC and HMDA will be strengthened. Quality private e-mobility services will also be encouraged.
Cultural and business activities: Night bazaars, food streets, state festivals, heritage walks and traditional food hubs will be promoted. These steps are expected to attract visitors and support MSMEs.
Boost to Tourism
- Tourism will play a major role in the night-time economy.
The plans include promoting medical tourism, wellness, spiritual tourism, eco-tourism, heritage tourism and theme-based experiences. - Single-window booking and approval platforms will be introduced for tourists.
- Local communities will receive training to provide better service.
Plans include women-friendly tourist zones with safe kiosks, multilingual helpdesks and smart lighting. - Night tourism will be expanded by organising night bazaars, food festivals and special events in key parts of the city.
- Major Telangana festivals such as Bathukamma, Bonalu, Medaram Jatara and Pushkaralu will be promoted as international events.
- Telangana’s handicrafts, handlooms and local products will be branded and showcased to global visitors.
The government believes that with proper strategy and planning, Hyderabad can become a leading night-time economy hub, attracting tourists, boosting business, and supporting lakhs of workers across the city.
