In a case that has drawn attention in Madhya Pradesh, two adult sisters from a Muslim family have married two Hindu cousins in Chhatarpur district.
The incident took place in the Nowgong area. The sisters reportedly left their home on February 9, telling their family members that they were going to withdraw money from an ATM. However, they did not return, following which their family lodged a complaint at the local police station.
Family members alleged that the girls had been kidnapped and also staged a protest outside the police station, claiming that proper action was not being taken.
On February 15, both women released a video statement saying that they had married the Hindu cousins of their own free will. They stated that no pressure was involved in their decision. The sisters also appealed to the district Superintendent of Police to provide them protection, claiming they feared threat from their family members.

In the video, they said that if any harm comes to them or to their husbands’ families, their own relatives should be held responsible.
Police officials have stated that both women are adults. They said efforts are being made to trace their current location and further action will be taken according to the law.
