Chicken Prices Rise in Telugu States; Check Latest Price per Kg

Hyderabad | March 8, 2026 | DeccanLive.com

Non-vegetarian food lovers in the Telugu states are facing higher costs as chicken prices have risen sharply, with rates touching ₹300 per kg in several cities across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The sudden price increase has come as a shock for many consumers, especially on Sundays when demand for chicken is usually very high. Despite the price hike, chicken shops are witnessing heavy crowds, with customers lining up to buy meat for weekend meals.

Earlier, the price of skinless chicken ranged between ₹250 and ₹260 per kg, depending on the area. However, prices have now climbed close to ₹300 per kg in many places.

Current Chicken Prices in Major Cities

Hyderabad: ₹290 – ₹300 per kg (skinless chicken)
Warangal: Around ₹290 per kg
Asifabad: About ₹300 per kg
Kamareddy: ₹280 – ₹300 per kg
Vijayawada: Around ₹300 per kg

In Hyderabad, dressed chicken is currently priced at around ₹260 per kg, while the retail price of live birds is about ₹177 per kg. At poultry farms, live birds are selling for around ₹150 per kg.

Egg Prices Fall

Interestingly, while chicken prices are rising, egg prices have dropped this time.

A tray of 30 eggs is currently selling for ₹130 to ₹140, while the retail price for 12 eggs is around ₹60. Earlier, a single egg used to cost ₹5 to ₹6, but now it is available for about ₹4.

Traders say the drop in egg prices is mainly due to a halt in egg exports from India following the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, which has increased domestic supply.

Reasons Behind the Price Rise

Poultry traders say the rise in chicken prices is mainly due to lower production and higher demand. Earlier, poultry farms were affected by bird flu, which reduced chicken production.

In addition, the summer heat in the Telugu states has also caused the death of many birds, further affecting supply.

Industry sources say that if poultry production improves in the coming weeks, prices may stabilize. However, for now, chicken prices are expected to remain high for some time.
